El triatlón fue protagonista en los XIII Juegos Suramericanos Santa Fe 2026, con dos jornadas de competencia en la Costanera Este que dejaron grandes actuaciones, definiciones ajustadas y once países representados por sus respectivos triatletas en las distintas pruebas del programa.
Chile hizo historia en la competencia masculina individual con un histórico 1-2, mientras que Argentina completó el podio con la medalla de bronce. Por su parte, Colombia se quedó con el primer lugar en la prueba femenina, Brasil con la segunda ubicación y Venezuela cerró tercera.
A su vez, Brasil conquistó también la definición del relevo mixto, Chile fue plata y Venezuela bronce en la carrera por equipos.
Chile hizo historia en la competencia masculina
La prueba masculina individual tuvo como gran protagonista al chileno Andree Buc, quien se quedó con la medalla de oro tras completar el recorrido en 54 minutos y 30 segundos.
Buc consiguió tomar una ventaja suficiente durante la competencia y pudo disfrutar de los últimos metros frente al público santafesino antes de cruzar la línea de meta.
“Ya cuando vi que iba ganando por bastante tiempo dije: Ya lo voy a disfrutar, voy a saludar al público y voy a disfrutar de la victoria”, contó el campeón después de la carrera.
“Para mí este oro significa bastante, ya que es una demostración de mi trabajo y de mi entrenamiento. Para Chile significa algo grande”, destacó Buc.
La medalla de plata también quedó en manos de Chile, con Mateo Mendoza, quien terminó apenas 22 segundos detrás de su compañero, con un tiempo de 54:52. El resultado significó un histórico 1-2 para el triatlón chileno en los Juegos Suramericanos.
El argentino Tiago Muñoz completó el podio con la medalla de bronce, registrando un tiempo de 54:57. El marplatense tuvo además el reconocimiento del público local durante toda la competencia, especialmente en los sectores en los que los atletas pasaban frente a los espectadores.
“Era una locura. Cada vez que pasaba por acá no escuchaba más que gritos y mi nombre, y eso es una satisfacción increíble”, expresó Muñoz. El argentino consiguió así una medalla en casa, después de haber obtenido también recientemente un bronce en una Copa Continental disputada en Brasil. “Esto es en casa y vale mucho más”, afirmó.
Colombia se quedó con el oro femenino
En la competencia femenina individual, la colombiana Carolina Velázquez se consagró campeona de los Juegos Suramericanos tras completar la prueba en 59 minutos y 50 segundos.
La atleta colombiana destacó la importancia del trabajo realizado durante los últimos años y valoró especialmente el nivel de las rivales presentes en Santa Fe.
“No es que haya algo premeditado, sino que durante la carrera hay que intentar tomar las decisiones más inteligentes”, explicó Velázquez al analizar su actuación.
La brasileña Djenyfer Arnold obtuvo la medalla de plata con un tiempo de 1:00:20, mientras que la venezolana Rosa Martínez completó el podio con la medalla de bronce, registrando 1:00:42. Para Venezuela, el resultado tuvo un significado especial, ya que Martínez consiguió la primera medalla de su país en los Juegos Suramericanos en el triatlón femenino.
“Estoy feliz por esta medalla que le entrego a mi país”, señaló la venezolana, quien también explicó que tuvo que superar una penalización de 15 segundos durante la competencia.
Brasil ganó el relevo mixto
El programa de triatlón de los Juegos Suramericanos Santa Fe 2026 se cerró con la disputa del relevo mixto, donde Brasil consiguió la medalla de oro.
El equipo brasileño completó la prueba en 1:25:51, seguido por Chile, que obtuvo la medalla de plata con un tiempo de 1:25:58, siete segundos por detrás. Venezuela completó el podio con la medalla de bronce, registrando 1:26:52, a 1 minuto y 1 segundo del conjunto ganador.
Argentina finalizó en la cuarta posición con un tiempo de 1:28:10, mientras que Ecuador ocupó el quinto lugar con 1:28:42.

Las competencias disputadas en la Costanera Este dejaron dos jornadas con protagonismo para distintos países del continente y confirmaron el valor de los Juegos Suramericanos como escenario para el desarrollo y la competencia entre los mejores atletas de la región.

TRIATHLON AT SANTA FE 2026: CHILE, COLOMBIA, BRAZIL, ARGENTINA AND VENEZUELA SHARE THE MEDALS
Triathlon took centre stage at the XIII South American Games Santa Fe 2026, with two days of competition at Costanera Este featuring strong performances, close finishes and athletes from eleven countries competing across the event’s triathlon programme.
Chile made history in the men’s individual event with a historic 1-2 finish, while Argentina completed the podium with the bronze medal. In the women’s race, Colombia claimed the gold, Brazil took silver and Venezuela secured bronze.
Brazil also topped the mixed relay, with Chile taking silver and Venezuela bronze in the team event.
CHILE MAKES HISTORY IN THE MEN’S EVENT
The men’s individual race was led by Chilean Andree Buc, who claimed the gold medal after completing the course in 54 minutes and 30 seconds.
Buc built a decisive lead during the race and was able to enjoy the final metres in front of the Santa Fe crowd before crossing the finish line.
“Once I saw that I was ahead by quite a bit, I said: ‘Now I’m going to enjoy it, I’m going to wave to the crowd and enjoy the victory,’” the champion said after the race.
“For me, this gold means a lot because it is a demonstration of my work and training. For Chile, it means something big,” Buc added.
The silver medal also went to Chile, with Mateo Mendoza finishing just 22 seconds behind his teammate in a time of 54:52. The result gave Chile a historic 1-2 finish in triathlon at the South American Games.
Argentina’s Tiago Muñoz completed the podium with the bronze medal in 54:57. The Mar del Plata athlete also received strong support from the home crowd throughout the race, particularly in the sections where the athletes passed directly in front of the spectators.
“It was crazy. Every time I came through here, all I could hear were people shouting and calling my name, and that is an incredible feeling,” Muñoz said.
The Argentine secured a medal on home soil after also recently winning bronze at a Continental Cup in Brazil.
“This is at home, and it means so much more,” he added.
COLOMBIA CLAIMS WOMEN’S GOLD
In the women’s individual event, Colombia’s Carolina Velázquez was crowned South American Games champion after completing the race in 59 minutes and 50 seconds.
The Colombian athlete highlighted the importance of the work carried out over recent years and placed particular value on the level of the field competing in Santa Fe.
“It’s not that there is something predetermined. During the race, you have to try to make the smartest decisions,” Velázquez explained when reflecting on her performance.

The triathlon programme at the South American Games Santa Fe 2026 concluded with the mixed relay, where Brazil claimed the gold medal.
The Brazilian team completed the race in 1:25:51, followed by Chile, which took silver in 1:25:58, just seven seconds behind.
Venezuela completed the podium with bronze in 1:26:52, finishing 1:01 behind the winning team.
Argentina finished fourth in 1:28:10, while Ecuador placed fifth in 1:28:42.
