Regional Development Camps - Building the Future

World Triathlon Development continues to invest in the next generation of athletes and coaches through its Regional Development Camp programme, providing valuable learning opportunities that extend far beyond physical training.

The World Triathlon Development Regional Camp is designed to equip young triathletes and coaches with the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to excel at Development Regional Cups and future international competitions. By combining technical development with education and strategic preparation, the camps help participants build the foundations required for long-term success in the sport.  The programme focuses on developing well-rounded athletes and coaches by exploring every aspect of performance. Participants engage in sessions covering mental preparation, goal setting, race tactics, decision-making, and performance analysis, helping them approach competition with greater confidence and purpose.

Athletes also gain practical experience in key performance areas, including travelling, packing and basic care of the bike, course familiarisation, nutrition planning, open water safety, tapering, race activation, and post-race recovery. This holistic approach ensures participants are prepared not only for upcoming competitions but also for the challenges of long-term athlete development.  A key feature of the new camp format is the introduction of innovative educational resources, including a series of engaging infographics designed to simplify complex concepts and support learning in practical, real-world competition environments. These resources help athletes and coaches better understand and apply performance principles both during training and on race day.

More than simply a training environment, the World Triathlon Development Regional Camp serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and relationship building among athletes and coaches from across the region.

Guatemala Regional Camp Brings Together Athletes from Across the Americas

This month, the 2026 Guatemala Americas Triathlon – World Triathlon Development Regional Camp welcomed 31 participants from 11 National Federations across the Americas.

Athletes and coaches from GUA, CRC, CUB, DOM, ESA, PAN, PUR, HON, ARG, PAR, VEN came together to train, learn, and share experiences in a high-performance development environment. Women represented 30% of participants, reflecting the ongoing commitment to increasing opportunities for female involvement within the sport.  The camp provided participants with access to expert coaching, educational workshops, and practical race preparation sessions, while also creating valuable opportunities for cultural exchange and regional collaboration.  Reflecting on the atmosphere and spirit of the camp, World Triathlon Development Head Coach Mario Cordon highlighted the unity created through sport:

Investing in Long-Term Development

Regional Camps remain an important pillar of the World Triathlon Development pathway, supporting emerging athletes and coaches as they progress through the sport. By combining education, technical development, and international collaboration, these camps help create stronger performance environments and prepare participants for future opportunities at regional, continental, and world-level competitions.

Through initiatives such as the Regional Camp programme, World Triathlon Development continues to strengthen the global triathlon community and provide meaningful opportunities for the sport's future leaders to learn, grow, and succeed.
