Americas Triathlon

El pasado lunes se llevó a cabo en Torremolinos, España, el XXXVII Congreso de la World Triathlon donde Antonio Fernández Arimany fue electo como el tercer presidente de la institución convirtiéndose en el sucesor de Marisol Casado, quién estuvo en el cargo desde el año 2008.

A su vez, en el congreso se realizaron también las votaciones para las nuevas directivas de la Junta Ejecutiva, los nueve Comités y Comisiones y el Tribunal.

Con respecto a los vicepresidentes, Gabriela Gallegos de Estados Unidos, Shin Otsuka de Japón, Antonio Álvarez de México y Debbie Alexander de Sudáfrica, fueron elegidos para ocupar los cargos.

Los elegidos para los cuatro puestos de la Junta restantes fueron Leslie Buchanan de Canadá, Bernard Saint-Jean Francia, Caterina Vacchi de Italia y Marco Antonio La Porta de Brasil.

Estos resultados marcan un antes y un después en la historia de Americas Triathlon ya que es la primera vez que América tiene el 50% de los cargos, tanto en Vicepresidencia como el 50% en los miembros de la Junta.  Además, hay integrantes de América en todos los comités.

Luego del congreso, tuvimos la oportunidad de contactarnos con el nuevo presidente de la World Triathlon, quién al respecto de sus emociones luego de haber ganado la posición nos dijo: “Es un honor y una gran responsabilidad ser el líder de la organización tras Marisol Casado”.

Sobre sus principales ideas y objetivos, Antonio Fernández Arimany comentó: “La idea es desarrollar un nuevo e innovador para la estructura de eventos”, y agregó: “Pretendo desarrollar una innovadora estrategia comercial para generar más recursos, incorporar una nueva bandera por continente y género, crear una nueva comunidad de triathlon que permita a todos conectarnos y ⁠mantener e incrementar nuestra presencia en los Juegos Olímpicos y Paralímpicos”.

Para cerrar, el nuevo mandatario fue consultado sobre su visión del continente americano por lo cual respondió: “América es un continente que tendrá un gran crecimiento en este nuevo período”.

Durante su presentación, Fernández Arimany hizo énfasis en el término “Trigether”, basándose en las palabras “Triathlon” y “Together”, dándole así gran importancia al trabajo en equipo para el crecimiento y el desarrollo.

Antonio Fernández Arimany is the new president of World Triathlon

Last Monday, the XXXVII World Triathlon Congress took place in Torremolinos, Spain, where Antonio Fernández Arimany was elected as the third president of the institution, becoming the successor of Marisol Casado, who had held the position since 2008.

Additionally, elections were held during the congress for the new Executive Board, the nine Committees and Commissions, and the Tribunal.

Regarding the vice presidents, Gabriela Gallegos from the United States, Shin Otsuka from Japan, Antonio Álvarez from Mexico, and Debbie Alexander from South Africa were elected to hold these positions.

The four remaining seats on the Board were filled by Leslie Buchanan from Canada, Bernard Saint-Jean from France, Caterina Vacchi from Italy, and Marco Antonio La Porta from Brazil.

These results mark a turning point in the history of Americas Triathlon, as it is the first time that the Americas hold 50% of the positions, both in the Vice Presidency and in Board membership. Moreover, there are representatives from the Americas in all the committees.

After the congress, we had the opportunity to speak with the new president of World Triathlon, who shared his feelings after winning the position: “It is an honor and a great responsibility to lead the organization following Marisol Casado.”

Regarding his main ideas and objectives, Antonio Fernández Arimany commented: “The plan is to develop a new and innovative event structure,” and added: “I intend to develop an innovative commercial strategy to generate more resources, incorporate a new flag for each continent and gender, create a new triathlon community that will allow us all to connect, and maintain and increase our presence in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

To conclude, the new president was asked about his vision for the American continent, to which he responded: “America is a continent that will experience significant growth in this new period.”

During his presentation, Fernández Arimany emphasized the term 'Trigether,' based on the words 'Triathlon' and 'Together,' thus highlighting the importance of teamwork for growth and development.
