60 triathletes took the stage in the Casa de Campo lake, in Madrid, for the start of the 2017 ITU Madrid World Cup, with some great names among the ones to watch, and with them not disappointing since the very first meters of the swim.

The women’s race started with Spaniard Carolina Routier leading the water since the very first strokes, opening a gap of a few seconds during the first lap of 750m, to maintain it until the swim exit, and to no one’s surprise: the Spaniard has led the swim in 21 out of the 32 major races she has started so far.

2017 World Triathlon Yokohama - Men Highlights
For the second year in a row, Spaniard Mario Mola claimed victory at the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Yokohama. The win was also his second of the season and catapulted him back to the top of the WTS rankings.

2017 Chengdu ITU Triathlon World Cup - Elite Women’s Highlights
While she is no stranger to winning, Great Britain’s Non Stanford and former ITU World Triathlon Series World Champion of 2013 has never won a World Cup race in her career, until today. The Brit earned her first career WC gold after surviving two days of racing at the 2017 Chengdu ITU Triathlon World Cup in her first WC race since 2011.

Starting his ITU World Cup career off on the right foot, Aussie Matthew Hauser earned the gold medal in his debut WC race at the 2017 Chengdu ITU Triathlon World Cup. Taking sixth place in his semifinal heat the day before, Hauser conquered the super sprint distance on day two of racing to earn the winner takes all prize of standing on his first WC podium.

Australia’s Gold Coast has been a happy hunting ground for Mario Mola, and the Spaniard continued that run on Saturday when he took out the 2017 Jewel World Triathlon Series Gold Coast event.Mola has now won three times on the Gold Coast, including the 2009 ITU Junior World Champion title and last year’s World Triathlon Series event. His worst result has been second in a world triathlon series event, in 2015.On Saturday the race came down to the final 5km run, with Mola locked in a battle with fellow Spanish athletes Fernando Alarza and Javier Gomez Noya, and training partner Richard Murray. But in the final few hundred metres Mola pulled away from Murray to take his second consecutive Gold Coast win, in a time of 52 minutes and 35 seconds.

It might have taken her six years to get back on top of a World Triathlon Series podium but Andrea Hewitt (NZL) now has two from two to start the year after she claimed the 2017 Jewel World Triathlon Gold Coast title in Australia on Saturday.While her first victory of the year came from an epic sprint to the finish on the blue carpet in Abu Dhabi just over a month ago, her second victory came through outrunning her competition from the second transition, on the first sprint distance course of the season.
