Gold Coast on Schedule

By World Triathlon Admin | 25 May, 2009

The organizing committee for the 2009 Gold Coast Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Grand Final are pleased to advise that everything is on schedule and that we are working hard not to just deliver a high quality race but an amazing and unique event experience that you will long remember.

The event schedule has been adjusted following feedback from the test event on 1 March from stakeholders that included; competitors, ITU, Police, Gold Coast Council, media partners, local businesses and residents.

As a result the most significant change for age group athletes will see the Olympic distance events take place on Saturday and the sprint distance events on Sunday.

Cycle courses for both distances remain as originally planned and changes to the run course see a simpler, more spectator friendly layout that features one lap for sprint events and two laps for Olympic events.

In keeping with ITU Triathlon World Championship tradition, age group registration will be on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday prior to the race weekend. Registration times will be allocated to all countries over these three days.

The Opening Ceremony and Welcome Dinner will again keep with tradition and take place on Thursday evening. Presentations and the Athlete Farewell Party will be on the Sunday Night.

There will be some further minor adjustments to actual start times (approx 20 days out from event) once the event numbers are finalized and wave starts are calculated to ensure all competitors have a safe and fair race.
