By World Triathlon Admin | 01 Jun, 2006

Corner Brook, NL – 50 days and counting to TRI-FEST 2006! The Corner Brook Triathlon Committee is excited to be hosting a more action packed schedule of events than ever before. Scheduled from July 21-30th, TRI-FEST is now ten days full of multi-sport events. This means more athletes, more excitement, more energy, and more fun!

Events slated for TRI-FEST 2006 include a mix of the traditional TRI-FEST action, such as the Swim Relay on July 21st , the Downtown Dash on July 26th and the 25th Corner Brook Triathlon on July 23rd . Pre-registration is recommended for all of these events; please visit the Tri Office at 28 Brook Street or our website at www.triourworld.com.

TRI-FEST would not be the same without the presence of the ITU Triathlon World Cup on July 23rd. This year marks Corner Brook’s 9th consecutive year on the international circuit, making it one of the only cities to continue to host such an event year after year. Another anchor event of TRI-FEST 2006 is the Kids of Steel taking place on July 22nd. Children of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this wildly popular kids triathlon. Corner Brook is happy to be helping to instill a sense of fun and fitness into its young athletes. As Corner Brook’s event is one of the biggest Kids of Steel events in Canada, pre-registration is strongly recommended and can be done so by dropping by the Tri-Office at 28 Brook Street or by visiting us online at www.triourworld.com.
This year, a pinnacle event of TRI-FEST 2006 is the ITU Duathlon World Championships! This event is expected to bring upwards of 750 age group and elite athletes to Corner Brook from more than a dozen countries to compete on one of the most challenging courses in the world. To go along with this event there be an opening ceremonies and Parade of Nations that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The public are encouraged to attend this event that will highlight health, happiness, and community. The ceremonies will take place at the Pepsi Centre on Thursday, July 27th at 7:00 p.m.

Volunteers play an important role in all TRI-FEST events. This year, volunteers are needed for all sorts of duties over a range of the ten days of TRI-FEST. Individuals may choose to volunteer for one event, or for a number of different events throughout the ten day festival. If you are interested in being involved in one of the most exciting events of the summer, be sure to become a volunteer for TRI-FEST 2006!
